Depression can hang over a person’s life like a fog, making it difficult to see a brighter future. When people ask, what is depression, the answer goes beyond a brief sadness or melancholy. A depressive state is defined as lasting for at least two weeks, altering a person’s mood or outlook to the point where they’re no longer interested in the activities that used to bring them joy. There are different types of depression, including clinical depression, postpartum depression and bipolar disorder.
